Managing any project can be challenging in itself; managing renovation work is different altogether. First, you never quite know what you are going to deal with until you expose your work area. Much can be predetermined with experience but a good deal is a black art learnt from a lifetime of working on older properties where modern rules did not apply when building took place. We will have arranged your architect and plans are drawn, we have our listed building consent, our trades are in place and we have our schedule of works. As the client you may wish for daily debriefings or weekly that’s up to you. The big secret is communication from us to you and vice versa - if we maintain this relationship then we will have a smooth running project and a happy client. We will take your project through all its various stages until completion. Whether it’s small or large, your project is just as important. After all you are its custodian for future generations.

Lime plaster & rendering, Oak carpentry, Thatching, Roofing, Lime laid brickwork, Lime pointing and Lead work

These are all ‘Old school’ traditional skills passed down or re-learnt. We employ on your behalf all of these various trades to complete your project. Whether it’s repairs to a wattle and daub wall, or oak frame repairs, small or large we can provide a quote for you.

Conservation work and listed building consent

We have good relationships with local conservation officers. This will enable us to work together to achieve your goal, in a stress free and united manner.

Conservation building is like a detective novel! You discover history, you work with detail, maybe untouched for centuries (that must be the most rewarding part of our work, the “who was here before me” thought).

What you must do is to preserve historic detailing and building techniques, not just replace them.
If it’s new, it’s new; don’t try to make it look old when it’s not, let the 21st century work with the 15th century.
